Speaking in San Diego

by Leslie Burns

I will be speaking in San Diego at an APA-SD event called Lawyer Up! on January 18 NEW DATE 25 (location TBD–check with APA-SD for updates). From copyright to contracts, releases and getting paid, the evening presentation will offer some basic information on legal issues facing all creatives, including photographers.

Even if you think you know about these issues (and even if you are not a photographer), you should attend to have common myths debunked (like do you know how the DMCA works for you–it’s not just about takedown notices). I bet you learn something that will help your business immediately.

The talk will be casual and in plain language–I’m checking as much of the legalese as possible at the door. I want people to understand these topics, not show off the $20 words I learned in law school. There will also be time for questions, although, of course, you shouldn’t ask me for specific legal advice (save that for private, confidential discussions with your own attorney) and there will be pdfs made available with notes and more information.

Hope to see you there!
